Urban Play dives into first water play project

Just in time for summer, a new splash pad at Blue Lagoon in Mackay will be keeping the locals cool. In collaboration with Mackay Regional Council, Beau Corp, Water Play and Urban Play, the new splash pad will ignite the creativity and imagination of all ages and abilities.

The island themed splash pad will take children on an unforgettable play journey to a tropical island. The centre-piece of the splash pad is a big top soaker which sends 113 litres of water splashing onto excited thrill seekers below, while interactive turtle and life buoy ground sprays bring the splash pad to life spraying water in all directions.

A boat with water-spurting cannons, a water-spraying mast and tipping buckets enhance the theme while adding to the sense-tingling play journey. Palm trees with water trickling from their leaves and the twisty Octopus which sprays water from its tentacles offer thrilling and collaborative play experiences for all children.

The splash pad was put to the test by an all-abilities play group who gave the new water park a big thumbs up. The project marks Urban Play’s first Queensland installation and splash pad for partners, Water Play.

Splash pad designer, Tobias Volbert mentioned that he was super excited for the splash pad to open.

“The island themed splash pad is designed to ignite the creativity and imagination of waterplayers of all ages and abilities. It  encourages children to explore and push their boundaries in a free, unstructured environment.’ Mr Volbert said.
