In 2019, as part of the German National Garden Show, the city of Heilbronn revitalised an urban quarter putting people back at the heart of its design. Known for its fragmentation, the inner river landscape of Heilbronn was reconnected by four landscape bands creating a continous flowing landscape and harmoniously joining the old and new urban quarters. Located along the riverbank, architectural geometry and climbing play pieces create a multifunctional space where the city can play.
With an overarching theme of climbing, 12m high walls were transformed into a net playscape offering various forms and levels of difficulty. Slides, ropes and nets create an innovative playscape that pays homage to the old and new quarter.
Inspired by Heilbronn’s surrounding vineyard terraces, the sandstone style walls make reference to the countryside. The use of nets transforms the space between the walls to a vertical playscape that has multiple entry and exit points.
