What a spot! Located along the Richmond River, the new adventure playground is a massive hit with locals and tourists. Shannon Wheeler from Richmond Valley Council was heavily involved with the Woodburn Park playspace, here is what she had to say:
1. What was the reasoning behind the creation of Woodburn Park?
The upgrade of Woodburn Riverside Park & playground hub was to attract travellers off the newly built Pacific Highway bypass and into the town of Woodburn. The idea to have a giant climbing structure was influenced by the locals.
2. What is your favourite thing about Woodburn Park?
I have had a play on all of the equipment and I quite enjoyed the nest swing as you can sit with your kids on it and enjoy the ride together. However, the view from the top of the giant rope climber is amazing!
The climb is also a joy as you really have to think about the path you take, weaving in and out to get to the top for the big slide down.
3. What is the feedback you have had from local businesses and the community in response to the new playspace?
We have had some great feedback from travellers saying its one of the best rest stops they have ever been to. The playground allows for the kids to really get their brains working and get a good stretch before they have to get back into the car. I drive past the playground every day on my way home from work and you always see the school kids using the playground on their way home from school. Its not only a travellers rest stop, but a rest stop for the locals too.
