Shale St, Brinsmead
Set among the natural landscape, Goomboora Park Adventure Playground has been drawing crowds to its Cairns location since the official opening in August 2014. The space features a custom rope Parkour system adjoined to a Corocord Explorer Dome, providing a climbing adventure to test children’s motor skills, agility, balance and strength. A flying fox provides the opportunity for group play activities, encouraging social interaction and peer communication as children take turns gliding down the popular zip line. With BBQ facilities and plenty of open space, Goomboora Park is the perfect day out for families of all ages.
'Goomboora Park has always been considered a destination park in the Cairns region, due to its large open space and proximity to the stunning Freshwater Creek. To that end it was important that a new playground be sympathetic to the natural environment and as unobtrusive as possible. A traditional playground was not going to be suitable for this park so Council worked with Urban Play to design an adventure playground with an emphasis on natural rope elements to stimulate, challenge and provide something completely different in the region. To retain a natural feel, Urban Play worked under Council’s direction to design and install the adventure playground under a canopy of beautiful fig trees, reducing the need for sail structures. The result has been extraordinary with it becoming the most talked-about park in the region. The carpark is overflowing on weekends, parties are booked a month in advance and Council is currently assigning further funding to upgrade other facilities to cope with the increased usage of the park.'
