Amongst the rolling hills of the Gold Coast Hinterland lays the Huntington Rise Estates. Filled with play pieces for children of multiple ages, the nature playground will be a drawcard for families looking to buy in the estate. Urban Play worked alongside Interface Landscapes and RPS on the playspace. Here is what Chris Moore, Senior LA from RPS had to say about the playground.
1. What was your design inspiration for the park?
Theme was contemporary dreamtime. Our client was keen on creating something different and unique. The customised urban play elements suited the brief perfectly whilst giving the park a real kick of adrenaline.
The natural, neutral and soft colour palette used were inspired by the sites 60 Hectares of environmental corridors and rocky creeklines.
2. What is your favourite thing about designing parks or playspaces?
Seeing local families getting together, relaxing and enjoying the parks we are lucky enough to design. We also enjoy simple things like watching the plants develop and mature over time, it keeps you coming back to see how everything is progressing.
3. What trends can you see evolving in park design in the next 5 years?
As Australia’s population diversity grows we’d suggest an increasing focus towards inclusive design. Catering for different cultures, ages and abilities is the key to facilitating great social outcomes.
